AUSTRALIA FOR UNHCR
Branding a network of professional Australian women supporting the entrepreneurial spirit of refugee women and girls.
THE SITUATION
Women and girls make up around half of any refugee or internally displaced population. They are also among those most at risk of discrimination, violence and exploitation.
In response to this, Australia for UNHCR has set up the ‘Leading Women Fund’, aimed at professional and influential women in Australia. The fund is about women helping women to overcome the barriers of gender inequality and provide life-changing opportunities for refugee women and girls around the world. We were tasked to brand the philanthropy network and rollout the collateral for their launch event.
THE SOLUTION
We created a visual identity system that would align with the UNHCR brand and represent this global connection. The overall tone creates a sense of energy, resilience and a rallying call to arms within professional women’s networks.
The simple and refined word mark, connects the typography and references a rising globe. The pull out typography styling uses a condensed font and colour blocking to allow words to be highlighted and subtly reference the visual language of DIY signs seen at rallies and protect marches. This theme is extended with the five project pillars being defined through iconography on badges, an accessory worn to define yourself as part of a movement. The colour palette was crafted to work in the iconic United Nations blue and create a flexible and workable palette.
Using imagery at the forefront of the design rollout, the visual system creates a platform to tell profound and important human stories, create inclusivity, and rally support.
“Working with the team is a truly collaborative process; the creativity they infused into the work and the blend of intuition and research they utilised whilst balancing our branding needs resulted in something we are all proud of.
They are thoughtful and progressive with their approach to projects, always adding valuable insights and translating them into beautiful contemporary designs which clearly communicate our brand. The Leading Womens Fund was no exception. Three Blocks Left translated our vision for this into a sophisticated brand which truly appealed to our audience.
The team are agile yet patient, always working with us for the best possible outcome. On a personal note, they are incredible to work with, all wonderfully kind, passionate, switched on and quick witted.”
